Label design and printing for Windows — in your language

1.wien Label Studio is standalone label software for Windows: design labels, pull in content from Excel or CSV lists, and print on your thermal label printer. Everything runs on your own PC — no cloud, no account, no monthly fees. The interface speaks English and German; you switch at any time with one click at the bottom left.

Try it free — then choose

After installation the program runs with every feature for 7 days. After that it keeps working in a free limited mode (up to 20 labels per job, without list import) for as long as you like — nothing expires, nothing nags. A licence unlocks everything again, on the same PC, without reinstalling.

How to get started

1. Install Get the installer from us (it comes with your licence email — see below), then double-click 1wien-Label-Studio-Setup.exe. Windows shows a one-time warning because the file carries no paid signature: click “More info” → “Run anyway”. No administrator rights needed; the program installs only for your user account.
2. Choose your roll size On first start, pick the label size of the roll in your printer. The measurements are usually printed on the packaging; you can change them any time.
3. Print a test, then the batch Print a single test label and look at it. Then print the whole quantity — including from an Excel list with many rows.

What the program does

• Templates and your own designs: product, shipping, address and inventory labels, or a blank sheet. Your designs are saved as .wienlabel files.
• Label library: keep your favourite labels as picture cards — the library shows a preview of each saved label, warns about duplicates, and opens any of them with one click.
• Two views: “Simple” shows only the essentials; “Advanced” adds position, rotation, lists, serial numbers and printer correction. Nothing is ever lost between the two.
• Multiple items at once: Ctrl+A selects everything, Ctrl+Click adds or removes single items; the selection moves, aligns, copies and deletes as a block.
• Lists: open an Excel or CSV file, click a column name — each label shows the values of its row. Quantities per row are supported, and a print-time filter (“only rows where column X contains this text”) narrows the batch.
• Input fields at print time: placeholders like {Eingabe1} turn into input fields in the print preview — handy for lot numbers or dates you fill in per batch.
• PDF: print finished PDF pages onto labels (page range, cropping, rotation, fit) or save your own design as a PDF in true millimetre measurements, or export a PNG at 72–600 dpi.
• Batch conversion: import a whole folder of old label files in one go; the originals stay untouched.
• Easy positioning: items snap to edges and centres of other items while you drag. A selected item shows eight red handles — resize it like in Paint. Images can be dropped straight onto the label.
• Quick repeat: the last print job can be re-sent with one click — same printer, order and correction as before.
• Printers: every Windows-installed printer, saved millimetre correction per printer, and a calibration label for measuring.

Serial labels and gaps

Some label printers advance to the tear-off edge after each label in tear-off mode, wasting a blank label. The program detects this driver mode and prints batches without the extra feed; a single test label still advances. You pull the last label of a batch out of the device with the feed button.

Is the print consistently offset by the same amount? The print preview has a “Fine adjustment in millimetres” section. Print the measuring label there: it shows a 2 mm frame, rulers on the top and left edges, and an origin mark. The measured offset is entered as an X/Y correction and remembered per printer.

What the program does not do

• It does not buy postage or generate carrier labels; shipping templates are ordinary labels with sender, recipient and barcode.
• It is currently not digitally signed — hence the one-time Windows warning during installation.
• Custom fonts from foreign files are replaced with Segoe UI when missing on your PC; the program tells you when that happens.
• Password-protected PDF files are not supported.

System requirements

Updates

The application checks for a new version on 1.wien when it starts and tells you when one exists. It only downloads after your confirmation and only after verifying the SHA-256 checksum published here; afterwards it restarts by itself. Without an internet connection everything keeps working unchanged. You can also check manually any time under “About 1.wien” → “Check for updates”.

Privacy

All labels, lists and images stay on your computer. The application transfers no content, signs in nowhere and sends no usage data. The only network access is the update check against 1.wien — if you prefer not to have that, simply ignore the notice.
