Step 1: Does mobile data still work?
Turn off Wi-Fi on your phone. If websites load over mobile data, the internet as such is fine — the problem is between your provider and your router. If mobile data is also dead in your area, it may be a bigger regional issue.
Step 2: Check the outage pages
Both big providers have official status checks: A1 lists outages in their support area (a1.net, or call 0800 664 100), Magenta offers an outage check by postcode and the service line 0676 200 7777 (daily 8:00–22:00). If an outage is confirmed for your address: stop troubleshooting, it is their job now.
Step 3: One router restart — done properly
Power off the router, wait 30 seconds, power on, then wait a full five minutes before judging — the lights need time to settle. Exactly once. If it does not help, restarting five more times will not either.
Step 4: One device or all devices?
If only your laptop is offline but the phone works on Wi-Fi, the problem is that device — not the line. That is typically a remote-session fix (€ 1.65/min, first look free).
