1. Restart the box — properly

Unplug the A1 TV box from power (not just standby), wait 30 seconds, plug in, and give it a few minutes to boot and reconnect. Most „dead box“ evenings end here.

2. Blame the cable before the box

Black screen but the box shows lights? Check the TV input source (HDMI 1/2/3 — someone always switches it) and reseat the HDMI cable at both ends. Try another HDMI port: ports fail more often than boxes.

3. Is it actually the internet?

A1 TV needs the internet line. If Wi-Fi is also down, solve the internet problem first — the TV fixes itself afterwards. If internet runs but TV does not, then it is box or service: A1 at 0800 664 100 can re-provision the box remotely.

Recurring freezes instead of black screen?

Stuttering or freezing TV usually means the line struggles — often Wi-Fi-to-box instead of the recommended cable. A LAN cable to the box, or proper Wi-Fi coverage, ends it: we set that up.

Frequently asked questions

The box boots but the screen stays black.

Nine times out of ten: wrong TV source or a failing HDMI cable/port. Switch through HDMI inputs and reseat the cable before anything else.

TV freezes every evening at the same time.

Typical for a struggling connection at peak times — connect the box by LAN cable instead of Wi-Fi, or fix the coverage.

Do I lose recordings when unplugging the box?

No — a power-cycle is safe and is the standard first step A1 support asks for anyway.

Nothing helps.

Then A1 (0800 664 100) can re-provision the box remotely, or the box itself is due for replacement. We can check the home-network side via a free remote first look.
